Cricket Update  

 

Dear friends,

 

Sunday the July 23, 2006, we hosted the most spectacular and fun-filled sports event in our history. “The 2006 Inter-House Cricket Tournament”!

 

Wow! Truly an amazing day of fun. The day boosted with a crowd of more than 75 members and friends from all over North America.

 

Special thanks to our friends from New Jersey, Boston and Rochester. “We sure enjoyed your company more than your bowling and batting guys”!

 

And of course, our heartiest thanks to the ladies and other spectators for their un-biased cheering all day along.

 

The most impressive string for the day was the T-shirts sponsored by Sivananthan Selvan from 5ivenetworks Inc. White t-shirts with our alumni logo imprinted, what a splendid touch!  You sure did make us a family. Thanks Siva.

 

Even though the games did not have the jump-start as expected the mid day rain gave the players an excellent opportunity to show their colors. Our fast bowlers were able to deliver spins effortlessly (poor fellows, never knew they had it in them), wickets fell just by rolling the ball in and the men were able to camouflage their natures’ relief behind the cars (Hey! Who could guess what wet the lawn anyway).  Many thanks to our Environment Canada; we knew we could count on you guys!

 

Finally the tournament ended up by Kambar winning the trophy for 2006, (who would have ever thought that Italy would win the world cup, eh!). Elango and Bharathy trailing behind. Thanks to Shajeen the under 14-school player from UK. His elegant batting secured Elango the second place in the tournament. The most predicted Valluvar came last in the list (well! sometimes the spectacular sporting disasters are more interesting than the inspiring performances). 

 

Here are the results of our Inter-house cricket tournament 2006,

Game 1 – Kambar vs Bharathy- Kambar won by 39 runs.

Game 2 – Valluvar vs Elango- Elango won by 34 runs.

Game 3 – Elango vs Kambar– Kambar won the game by 7 wickets.

Game 4 – Mixed match: Valluvar/Kambar vs Elango/Bharathy- Valluvar/Kambar won by 9 wickets.

 

Trophies for the winners will be awarded in our “Annual 2007 Dinner Dance”. Winners of all categories have been selected and will be announced soon.
